What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Diagnosis:
The first step is diagnosis. CalOptima members need a diagnosis of Autism or ANY diagnosis (example: ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, etc.) with a recommendation by the doctor for ABA. Other insurances such as Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, MHN, Healthnet, and Blue Shield Magellan require a diagnosis of Autism and a recommendation for ABA in order to be authorized by the insurance
Diagnosis Document Requirements by Insurance Companies:
CalOptima’s requirements of the diagnosis documents are:
- ZDiagnosis
- ZDiagnosis code
- ZRecommendation for ABA Applied Behavior Analysis
- Z Signature of doctorate level diagnosing physician (PsyD, PhD, MD, DO)
- ZNotes about why the diagnosis was given (e.g., observations, assessments)
- ZFor the initial diagnosis to be within the last 2 years, or a recent confirmation of the diagnosis in the last 2 years.
Other insurances such as Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, MHN, Healthnet, and Blue Shield Magellan require
- ZDiagnosis
- ZRecommendation for ABA Applied Behavior Analysis
- ZNotes about why the diagnosis was given (e.g., observations, assessments)
- Zfor the initial diagnosis to be within the last 2 years, or a recent confirmation of the diagnosis in the last 2 years. Some insurances require a re-diagnosis every 2 years. Insurances change these requirements often. Please check with your insurance directly to confirm this is accurate information.
