What is ABA?

ABA stands for Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a very well-recommended technique you can use on your Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosed infant. Not only is it the most utilized and favored form of ABA intervention by parents, practitioners and ABA specialists, its effects have also been seen to be a successful form of ABA treatment. It is approved by the National Institutes of Health and the Organization for Autism Care, and by the United States Surgeon General.

ABA counseling is a system of strategies that resolve much of the behavioral issues for your adult child that you may experience. It can assist with positive feedback in the growth of his or her vocabulary, social and daily life skills. If you practice ABA therapy regularly for an amount of time, you can see a major change in the social conduct of your child and a decline in behavioral problems.

In the home area, caregivers, family members, and other sources of care may use Applied Behavior Analysis methods. There are several things which can be used to incorporate the concepts of ABA when involving the child in enjoyable events, such as Special ABA plays. Positive early interactions with children with autism has the best probability of producing positive outcomes. As parents and caregivers we are the children’s first teachers, our influence on their growth is important, so parents are encouraged to learn how to correctly and successfully administer ABA therapy.

Applied Behavior Analysis is the most widely recommended treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorder and is supported by thousands of studies from decades of research. While ABA is effective with many populations, including adults at work, it is most often associated with teaching children with Autism. ABA utilizes the principles of learning to promote changes in behavior.

Through years of research, the field of behavior analysis has developed many techniques for increasing appropriate behaviors and reducing inappropriate behaviors.  Positive reinforcement is one of the most important principles of ABA.

ABA is the process of providing intervention based on the principles of learning theory to improve an individual’s behavior. To ensure progress is being made, progress is tracked and managed through systematic data collection.

ABA has been used with children with ASD and other similar disorders since the 1960’s. A wide variety of ABA techniques have been developed for building useful skills in learners with ASD – from toddlers through adulthood.

These techniques can be used in structured situations like a lesson, or in unstructured situations like an outing to the neighborhood playground. ABA sessions with children on the Autism Spectrum involve one-on-one instruction with a behavior interventionist, who is supervised by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

At Acuity Behavior Solutions, our ABA therapists are highly skilled and trained in many effective behavior analysis techniques.
